Machu Picchu

The morning started with rain clouds all around and no sun to speak of. That gave me even more reason to go to the Inca trail first. I figured that by the time I return to Macchu Pichu, 3-4 hours later, the mist might clear. As you will see later, I was totally correct in my assumption. Because of this reasoning, I got the lay of the land, asked one guide who was with a tourist group which way to get to the Sun Gate and he pointed me in the general direction - up these steps and then hang left, past the hut. You see that hut here. I figured it out and proceeded apace. Went right through the gate and then down the trail. When I came back a good number of visitors had made it to the Sun Gate. A good accomplishment. It's a fairly long and steep path and I believe, part of the Inca Trail.

There was some immediate Llama excitement, and they are fun to watch and, er, shoot. But I did not waste much time and moved on.

As i said, I had a ticket for Machu Picchu Mountain, but passed by the entrance and continrued to the Sun Gate instead. Sadly, when I returned, the were just closing the time-limited access. No regrets, the Inca Trail was a unique experience for me, what little of it I did. I hike enough jungle covered hills in Colombia.

On the way toward the Sun Gate, here the vicinity of Macchu Pichu Mtn.

I am picking the story up after getting off the Inca Trail. Here a last look at what starts out so benign. I did love it, though. There were these two girls who were taking pictures at the entrance to the lnca Trail and I took theirs, then one of them took mine (according to my instructions)

Looking in direction of the Royal Retreat (MP) you can also see the winding road the buses take to get up there. Around 30 of them, they really move people quickly.

A couple of hikers getting ready to head back down to MP
Others, like these two, were so excited to have made it this far
And this one simply flew up here, a Crested Sparrow.
